Wrestling for Your Blessing

I haven’t been sleeping well. As I toss and turn, wrestling with my own body to get comfortable and with my mind to shut off so I can sleep, it does the opposite. But that’s okay because that’s what has me here. Typing for you. I am reminded in my thrashing around about the wrestling with God that Jacob does in Genesis 32.

"And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me." -Genesis 32:25-26

I will not let go of you until you bless me….

I continue in prayer. Earnestly pouring out a prayer on behalf of all of those hurting, grieving, dying, ill. Most, I fear, are going through these things without hope. Going through these things without ever grabbing ahold of God until the blessing comes. Their sleep eludes them but not for good reason.

If you're going to lose sleep- if you're going to leave a wrestling match with a limp, why not make it count? Why not pursue God with the persistence and determination of Jacob? What else are you chasing that could possibly be any more important? What are you allowing yourself to fall victim to if not to His mercy?

God could make you new. He could give you a new identity, a new name. He could leave a mark on you that would be a reminder of the day you met Him.

Instead, we choose to wrestle with temporary fixes. We choose to toss and turn, stare at the wall, scroll through social media, clean out the email, take a melatonin, or two. Maybe your Father wants you to pursue Him a bit. When's the last time you wrestled? When's the last time you were genuine in your prayer? When's the last time you sought Him for comfort and rest and blessings?
