The 5 words most college freshmen hate to hear....
"What are you majoring in?"
Some of us ashamed to say that we have no earthly idea, sheepishly reply with "umm I'm undecided at the moment..." and hope that the person who asked the question will reply with "well, hey, that's okay! you'll figure it out!" Not that this response makes us feel any better but it doesn't make it any worse either. Others may have fun with the question and explore every possible idea of a career that's ever crossed their mind and whichever flies out of our mouths first, sounds like a winner.
I have tried both.
Neither have helped me discover some hidden desire for a dream job.
But hear me out, friend. You may be undecided but God isn't.
Jeremiah 1:5 says " Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. "
Later in the same book is written " 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ' (29:11)
God knew you before He even formed you in your mother's womb. He had a purpose and plan for your life. If you operate within His will, you can't go wrong.
He tells us that nothing can pluck us from His hand.
You may not understand why you're here, what you're doing, who you are, but God knows the answer to all these questions. You are right where you need to be. You are wanted. * cue the Danny Gokey song "Wanted" *
If you're still here, it's because you are not finished with what God has created you for. No dream is too big for God to fulfill. You are here for a reason, no life is a mistake.
" The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. " - Psalm 138:8
Just because you have not discovered your spiritual gift doesn't mean they aren't there. Just because you're not sure of your passion doesn't mean you don't have one.
Being patient, prayerful and present is the best solution I've found. Patient in knowing His plan is better than anything I could come up with on my own. Prayerful that when the time is right, I will be obedient to the calling He puts on my heart. Present in this very moment; there's a reason I'm walking this path I'm on, constantly searching for a clue to why.
Don't give up on yourself- God hasn't. Waiting is the hardest part but if you think about the anxiety and fear this indecisiveness has caused and doubled that, that's at least the amount of all the joy that God will bring with your newfound calling.
I hope this ministers to someone's heart as much as it did to me writing it. Sometimes God gives you what you need to hear when you're speaking to others and that is what has happened to me today.
Our God is faithful and timely.
You are so correct Claire, patience is the hardest thing to learn when we are waiting for something we WANT an answer to, but God's timing is perfect and when HE reveals to us the plan HE has for our lives it's wonderful! I can't wait to see what HE reveals to you!❤
