Picture this: a world that is in constant turmoil, people are ill and without hope, it's dark and sad and God has been silent for 400 years. It was time for a savior. I heard once that there are approximately 300 promises God made prior to the birth of Jesus that would happen surrounding His coming. One example of these promises is Micah 5:2
" But you, Bethlehem, David’s country, the runt of the litter— From you will come the leader who will shepherd-rule Israel. He’ll be no upstart, no pretender. His family tree is ancient and distinguished. Meanwhile, Israel will be in foster homes until the birth pangs are over and the child is born, And the scattered brothers come back home to the family of Israel. He will stand tall in his shepherd-rule by God’s strength, centered in the majesty of God-Revealed. And the people will have a good and safe home, for the whole world will hold him in respect— Peacemaker of the world! " (MSG)
God's timing was and still is perfect. Thousands of years in advance, God is promising Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. The year Jesus is born, the census is being taken so Mary and Joseph must travel to Bethlehem to register. Everything was aligning-politically,religiously, and philosophically. The Romans conquer the Greeks, causing this new need for the census but also this meant the develop of roads and a time system (B.C., A.D.) It made travel so much easier, and at this time pretty much everyone can read Greek, without the language barrier being broken the text that makes up the Bible wouldn't have really made it out of Israel. The Romans take notes that can verify the promises of God on a whole new level because they were not believers at this time. This proves that God was right on time with the birth of Jesus even if He had been quiet for a while and it seemed that all hope was lost.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways submit to him,and he will make your paths straight. " - Proverbs 3:5-6
