Life is not fair

Life is not fair. We all know it isn't. However, we tend to use this phrase only when bad things happen in our lives. If you just got job promotion, married, the thing you've been waiting for, chances are you're not going to say "life just isn't fair" with a smile on your face.

Isn't it such a great thing life isn't fair?

I listened to a podcast of Levi Lusko* preaching about unfair life is, and how it is probably a good thing it's not.

Think about it. We don't deserve half the praises we get. We get awards for things that are insignificant. We get picked based on popularity instead of skill. Quantity is more yearned for than quality in so many circumstances.

Plenty of silly things are deemed unfair. But I want to talk about a very serious thing that isn't fair.

We are sinners and Christ, the perfect king, took all that upon Himself and was crucified.

We deserved the punishment He received. Aren't you just so thankful for Jesus? That He would be willing to sit at the right hand of the Father and intervene for us. A just God allowed us to have such an unfair way out. It was made so simple. We are provided all we need. People who haven't accepted Christ still get to live and breathe just like the ones who do. He gave the ultimate gift, and continues to, to anyone who would receive it, but He gives you the choice. That's not fair. He didn't stop there. Christ not only took on our sin, but He conquered the grave. Then God sent His spirit to be in you so He could help you! I wish I could just grab everyone reading this post & hug you so hard & tell you all the things God has gone before and done just to reveal Himself to you. SO MUCH GOOD STUFF. If you are one of those people who have not accepted Christ and you're reading this, it's not too late. You were given an unfair advantage.

We all screw up, just because I am saved, doesn't mean I don't screw up. Trust me, I'm pretty good at messing things up, but Jesus forgives. HE GAVE HIS LIFE FOR ME AND CONTINUES TO FORGIVE ME WHEN I CRUCIFY HIM OVER AND OVER. (spiritually, obviously)

We come in and out of church like it's a hobby. We pick up church as an activity, maybe twice a year for Christmas and Easter, or for some we go when times are tough just to get enough God to last us through the storm, then when it all works out we leave. We get caught up in the ways of the world and come crawling back asking for forgiveness and help again. We show up, put our butts in a pew for a few hours once a week and call it good- "whew. I can check church off my to-do list for today." Never getting in the word, or trying to build a relationship with Him through the week.

I'm not trying to shame anyone, I'm just as guilty as the next person. I'm trying to stress how great it is that He still loves. He's still waiting for us. He still forgives. But friend, just because He's an awesome God doesn't mean we would take advantage of His mercy and grace.

How is that fair? It's not. But I'm so glad it's not.

Cancer isn't fair, miscarriages, car accidents, divorces, homicide, but neither is the peace and healing God continues to offer in these situations. Aren't we glad that God isn't always fair? We hate when it's us, and our people who are effected by these terrible things but aren't we glad that all these struggles aren't standard for all of us? It's not fair for people to be widowed, kids to be orphaned, but if life was fair this would happen to everyone. When we see this happen all around us, it should draw us closer to the ones we love and closer to the presence of God.

His mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) He is so merciful when we don't deserve it. A perfect Father. A perfect Savior, to us imperfect children. He doesn't have to do ANYTHING to prove Himself to us, to prove His awesomeness, power, beauty and love, but He cares so much that He is still healing. He is still forgiving. He is still listening. He is still being a way maker. Thank you God, that you sent your son into an unfair world, sending him to take on the weight of all the sins of the world. Thank you for life not being fair. I don't want to think about the conditions we would be in if things were.
