Let Your Thoughts Become My Own

I was thinking of what to write this week and as I opened the Notes app on my phone, this is the first thing that popped up. I’m not sure where, when, or why exactly, I typed this but I think it’s a beautiful request.
Let your thoughts become my own.
A plea. A prayer. A goal.
In Philippians 4:8 Paul teaches “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Thought life is directly related to life, life. Thoughts become actions, actions can either be helpful or hurtful.
The average person thinks anywhere from 60,000-80,000 different thoughts a day. That’s roughly 2,500-3,300 per hour.
How many of these thoughts are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable?
Probably not all 60,000-80,000 of them.
You may think, “my thoughts are as true as can be.” But, is it also noble and right? Are they what you say is truth or what the Lord says is truth? If it is not of the Lord, then we shouldn’t be thinking them!
“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” - Proverbs 21:2.
Your thoughts are something you can control. You can use them to be building blocks or destructive. Your thought life may be private, it is one of those things that only you know how pure and lovely it truly is. However, eventually it will come out in your life. When push comes to shove, what thoughts will become actions? Will they be excellent and praiseworthy or anxious and angry?
“For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” - 1 Corinthians 2:11
God already knows your heart; He knows your thoughts. If that scares you, then maybe you should reevaluate just how great things are in that head of yours. Whatever you choose to speak over your life will become true to you. The only thing we know to be true and perfect and pure is the Word of God. If your thoughts are not lining up with what God has already set aside for them to look like, then they aren’t correct. As my preacher would say, “You gotta get rid of that stinkin’ thinkin’. “ If you don’t, you will find yourself out of fellowship with the Father.
“You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.”
