In 2 Kings 5 Naaman is healed of leprosy but not without some disappointment first. However, God knew that Naaman's healing could be granted, but it wouldn't happen in the way he wanted. Naaman's healing reminds us of wants vs. needs. Let's take a look.
"And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, 'Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.' But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, 'Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper. Are not Abana[c] and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean.' So he turned and went away in a rage. But his servants came near and said to him, 'My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean?' So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean." - 2 Kings 5:10-14
God knew that Naaman needed to be healed. God knew Naaman felt entitled because of his status. God knew Naaman would be tested. God knew Naaman's want to be healed would have to be bigger than his pride in order for it to happen. God could've healed him on the first trip down to the Jordan. And as he enters the water again and again with no sign of getting better, I'm sure he felt shaky in whether or not this healing would come, but God knows our needs better than we do, and Naaman was restored.
God knows our needs. He carries us. He clothes us. He feeds even the sparrows. He dresses even the lilies (Matthew 6:28). He knows what we need before we ever find the boldness to ask. It may not look exactly how we want or at the time we want, but it can happen.
He goes before you. He has never left us or forsaken us- He won't start now. Let your Father meet your needs. Let Him do what He does best- which is love you and provide for you. After all, who knows what you need any better than the one who created everything about you?
