God is in the details

I have been reading through 1 and 2 Chronicles lately and have found myself being very confused at times and bored at the repetition of it. However, I think this could be a beautiful thing because I have learned two very important things about God's character.

  1. God is a detail-oriented God.

  2. God is repetitive.

In the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, there are countless examples of how detail-oriented God is. From the building of the tabernacle, casting of lots, censuses, and genealogy we can see how important these details we tend to overlook really are. If they were not important, God wouldn't have listed them. God is repetitive when it comes to numbers and how the laws, sacrifices, and people are accounted for.

While we can see these things historically, I have also been more susceptible to seeing these things in my personal life as well. For instance, the details of Christmas always leave me in awe. There was a census, roads were built, there was a common language, there was no room at the inn, people of high importance clear down to the lowliest of people were aware of the birth of Christ. Christ came in the humblest of ways to be relatable to us. No detail was spared. Every prophecy from the Old Testament was fulfilled and confirmed. This is no small thing. God had a plan and He included the details in His word to show us just how real it is.

A passage that comes to mind is Matthew 6:28, "And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin."

God considers the lilies. He considers the sparrows. He considers all things. He knows the details of all things. Why would we ever have to fear or be anxious?

God is repetitive in my life by constantly blessing me. I woke up this morning. I am healthy. I have so many things and people to be thankful for. All my needs are met every day. God is repetitive in His mercy and forgiveness. God is constant in being a friend and a listening ear. He's a miracle worker. He is The Creator; every day the sun He made, rises and sets. I am so glad that He never gives up on me and is the Rock and constant we need.

While the Word may seem repetitive in parts and sometimes it would be easy to skip over those passages of who belongs to what tribe and what their jobs were, read them. The Word is a gift. It is alive and powerful. It lets us see the character of the God of the world. If a passage seems to be something that is being repeated, maybe pay extra close attention to these things because they are emphasized for a reason. He knows our nature- sometimes what we say is not what we do, however, God is the opposite. What God says is what is true and important.

Consider these details and praise Him for never skipping the small things in your life.
