Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

"For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." - Galatians 1:10
"Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." -1 Thessalonians 5:23
These two passages of scripture come to mind when I think of desperation.
In times of hurry, chaos and confusion, where do you turn?
I'll be honest with you, my first place is not always to Christ like it should be. Honestly, more often than not, I would rather do something completely desperate and uncalled for before I humble myself and give it to God. I would not recommend functioning this way, because it is in no way efficient.
You know the saying, "desperate times call for desperate measures." And while most of the time I use this phrase in a joking way, I think it holds some truth.
I'm not speaking of that desperation of seeking help every place but going to Jesus, I'm talking about what Jesus did to save us from ourselves. A world desperate for a Savior.
God didn't have to save us. He gave us all the tools to be successful, but we ruined it. He didn't have to send a grand gesture like His own Son to die for the sins of the world, but He did.
The world was, and still is desperate for hope. That hope is found in Christ. The world was, and still is desperate for love and light. Those things are found in Christ. Everything we need, can be found in Christ. Sometimes it takes us being in desperate circumstances for us to learn He is all we need. But, in this season of Lent- what is supposed to be reflection and preparation for the cross, I think we should all take the desperate measure of complete dependance on Christ alone.
The pastor of my church, yesterday, talked about how some may give up little things like candy, or something for the Lent season. However, how quick are we to give up something that can be easily managed if we really wanted, and still we pick it up right after the season is over?
Pretty often, I think. That's missing the point. We are supposed to be in remembrance of some struggle. Of Spirit over flesh. It isn't easy. But, God always wins.
We are supposed to lay down things that die at the cross. We are not supposed to pick these things back up. To repent is to turn away from.
This journey to the cross is a desperate one.
It is going to take some desperate measures. This requires sole (soul) dependance on Christ.
We are blameless and sanctified through Him. He is the only one we should seek the approval of. Serve Him well through desperately pursuing Him.
