The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:11-17. *

We must put on the FULL armor of God to fight in a battle that is in the spiritual realm. This battle requires us to be on guard and equipped. The true word of God can not be compromised but we are more susceptible to being compromised; this is why we must guard ourselves with His word.

Nothing is more important than conforming yourself to His word- not conforming His word to yourself.

When you get ready every day, are you clothing yourself in the armor of God as well?

We cannot give place to the devil in our day to day lives by doing things like not speaking truth to our neighbors, or being angry, letting the sun go down on our wrath, and sinning without repentance. (Ephesians 4:25-27) These things allow the devil to get a good foothold in the battle and you want him to always be caught off guard.

If we know that God’s word is truth, then we have to acknowledge the true statement of John 8:44: “You are of your father the devil and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” Satan is the father of sin and has no truth in him. He tries to make the world seem like it is in agreeance with what is right because he doesn’t want you to distinguish between good and evil. He is a master manipulator. He comes to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

If you have fallen into the lies the enemy is feeding you and he has been stealing your joy, the good news is the armor of God can stop these things.

First, we must gird our waists with the truth. If we do this, we are more stable and less likely to stumble. Then, put on your breastplate of righteousness. If we are dressed in righteousness, we can walk righteously. This eliminates having the appearance of sin on us and in our eyesight so we are less likely to be reminded of it. The Bible says they will know us by our fruit. If we look like and have the actions of unrighteousness, we lose our fruitfulness. The breastplate protects the vitals. Next, shod your feet in the preparation of the gospel of peace. The gospel is the “good news” the Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us so we could be saved, and this should bring us peace. Knowing nothing can harm us because we are already held by the savior should bring us peace in this battle. Nothing is greater than God. The devil is already fighting an uphill battle that he will never win. He is not on the same playing field as God and he is running out of time to attack. God is not pressured because He is eternal. Above all, it says we should take the shield of faith that will quench all the fiery darts of the devil. Lastly, we put on the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The shield of faith creates strength and safety for you. You can jump behind our faith and allow Him to protect you like He has done time and time again and will continue to do. The helmet protects our head. This helps us remember whose we are, because it is the helmet of salvation. Putting on the helmet of salvation eliminates doubt, discouragement, and fear. The sword of the Spirit is your most dangerous tool. All these other things are preventative, but the sword gives you the ability to fight. Remember, at the beginning we decided the Word of God could NOT be compromised and that is what your sword is made of. Not only does it help you protect yourself from the aggressor, but it allows you to make the first move. If you are armed with this Word of God that is the basis of all truth and light and life, then you have more power than the devil will ever have.

Choose to speak that life and truth over your life. That’s not to say that the battles won’t come if you do, because they will, but you are ready to put the devil in his places when it does happen and your fully protected by the armor of God when the enemy tries to push back.

*”Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” -Ephesians 6:11-17
